International Day for Women in Science, at IUCAA On the occasion of the International Day forWomen in Science, IUCAA Science Outreach personnel organised a special event for girl students fromMarathi medium schools in and around Pune, on February 11, 2019, at IUCAA. Pushpa Khare, senior astrophysicist, delivered an inspirational talk on Let us Know Our Universe. This was followed by a talk on Astronomy: Do it Yourself by Sonal Thorve. Celebrating Women in Astronomy, at FergussonCollege, Pune To celebrate International Day for Women in Science, Astro club of Fergusson College, Pune, had organised a series of guest talks onAstronomy bywomen astronomers on February 11, 2019. As a part of the series, Sonal Thorve delivered a talk onAstronomyOutreach: Challenges and Solutions. Talk, at Rani Lakshmibai Mulinchi Sainiki Shala,Mulshi IUCAA Public Outreach team visited Rani Lakshmibai Mulinchi Sainiki Shala, Mulshi (near Pune) on January 9, 2019. A talk on Space Science with demonstration was delivered to class X students by Sonal Thorve. Rupesh Labade demonstrated science toys based on themes sound, light, and pressure to students of classes VI to IX. This was followed by a sky watching session conducted by Tushar Purohit (IUCAA). About 300 students alongwith teachers enjoyed the sessions. Workshop for Teachers fromRural Schools near IGO, at IUCAA Atwo day workshop for secondary school teachers from rural areas in and around IUCAAGirawali Observatory (IGO) was held during January 23 - 24, 2019, at IUCAA. On the first day, there were demonstrations of science toys along with hands- on activities related to the topics on sound, light, and magnetism. This was followed by introduction to the optics and telescopes with an evening sky-watching session. The activities on the second day, included instructions on Workshops on Telescope Making, at Goa andLatur IUCAA Science Outreach team, in collaboration with Vigyan Parishad, Goa, conducted a Workshop on Telescope Making, at Science Film Festival, Goa, during January 17 - 20, 2019. Altogether, 200 small refracting telescopes were made by students of classes VI to XII. Tushar Purohit was the resource person. During February 22 - 24, 2019 a similar workshop was organised at Latur Science Centre. Twenty six large (5 inch) reflector telescopesweremade by school teachers.
